DIWALI PRAYER PROCEDURE FOR POOJA

Follow these process carefully for conducting diwali prayer in the traditional manner.
1. Initially select the right place to perform the puja.
2. Spread a clean cloth and make a bed of rice.
3. Place a pot at the center of the bed of rice.
4. Fill about 75% of the Pot with water.
4. Put a betel nut, flower, a clean coin, and some rice inside the pot.
5. Now arrange mango leaves around the opening of the Kalash, so called Pot.
6. Place a Thaali (a small plain plate) on the Kalash.
7. On the Thaali, draw a lotus with turmeric powder and place the idol or small photograph of                 Goddess Lakshmi.
8. Place some coins over the Thaali.
9. On the right of Kalash, place the Ganesha Idol.
10. Create a peaceful and calm atmosphere. The best way is to close the eyes and meditate on ‘om.’
11. Take some water and sprinkle on all puja items to purify them.
12. Do puja with haldi, kumkum and flowers on the pot.
13. Light a lamp.
14. Now take some flower and rice in the hands and close the eyes and meditate on Goddess Lakshmi.
15. You are now invoking Goddess Lakshmi. If you know mantras, recite them. Otherwise just simply meditate on Goddess Lakshmi.
16. Here is a simple Sanskrit mantra dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi.

Namosthesthu Maha Maye,
Shree padee, sura poojithe,
Shanka, Chakra, Gadha hasthe,
Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe

17. Now sprinkle the flowers and rice on the idol of Goddess Lakshmi.
18. Take out the idol of Goddess Lakshmi and place it on a Thaali. Clean the idol with water, then with milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar. Then clean the idol again with water.
19. Place the idol back on the Kalash.
20. Now offer garlands made of marigolds or leaves of bel tree, sandalwood paste, kumkum and other daily puja items including lighting incense and agarbhatis.
21. Now make offerings of coconut, fruits, sweets, betel nuts and betel leaves.
22. Next make offerings of Batasha sweets, puffed rice, coriander and cumin seeds.
23. Lastly, perform a silent Arati for Goddess Lakshmi. And meditate on Goddess Lakshmi.
